Marilu-As Lu notes in a letter home, (September 3rd) when mail finally arrived, it arrived in quantity and the soldiers spent the rest of the evening reading all they could. Mail was so critical to their morale. They longed to go back home and treasured the contact with loved ones and the news of what was going on in the lives of their loved ones. He wrote little in this entry because he was reading letters until it was too dark to see.
Cliff Hope from his book: When we got mail for the first time in three weeks, I had something to brag about. In all I received 56 items, "as much as anyone in the battery." I noted.
