Sept-3- 1917 Mouser
7 packs
20 Grands-
Walk past dead German to French church
Retrace steps.
Sept-4-7
Marilu-This is certainly cryptic. The Mauser would be a German rifle or pistol.
Cliff Hope from his book: Waiting for the infantry to take Brest, our survey section had little to do for a period of 10 days or so.
Marilu: This may explain why he adds Sept. 4-7, he may have done this walk every day for awhile.
The army included cigarettes in the K rations. Different brands were used. On brand was Twenty Grand. I think Dad may have traded 7 packs of Twenty Grands for a vintage German fire arm that didn't make it home.
ReplyDeleteThat makes so much sense! Thank you!
