October 10th Tuesday, Journal entry-Holes and more holes



Oct 10- Sump Hole by survey-Voted this morning. Hope claims that such digging of holes in the ground defies all human progress and the march of Civilization.

Cliff Hope from his book:  For two days in a row, I had to dig sump holes for garbage.....On a drizzly day when our survey party didn't go out, we dug a sumphole for the kitchen. "Privates did two-thirds of the work, " I groused in a diary notation. "We must write 'Ode to a Sumphole" sometime." I attended Protestant services and then had Grathwol and Winsor over for an evening bull session. 

Those who hadn't already voted by state ballot and could vote by federal ballot did so on 10 October.

Nov 26, 1945 Luzon Dear Leona: Well here I am still but not for long. No kidding a dream. A long worn out Dream is coming nearer to reality. I will be home some time in January. Unless orders change. Our old Outfit Broke up and so I'm in the 736th AAA Gun Bn. which is second on the list. for shipment. 43,000 men are going to shipped from the AAA this December on 147 Troop Transports. So I'll see you after I walk out of the Gates of Fort Douglas or should I call you up for Instruction on how to get around Salt Lake. Well that's too far ahead to think clear...
