December 3rd Journal Entry-Trip to Arlon







Dec 3-Left mess hall 07:30 arrived Arlon at chateau De Monarch 09:35 (Huge school -used by Germans for Hospital) Orientation & Registration (I was in charge of our group)-turn guns into ordinance bank, etc to Q.M.-issued clean uniform (got new pants)- Hot showers-Haircut-Wonderful dinner-pork chops-on plates at tables for four-Tour of Arlon in rain- St. Nickolas parade & gift handout to kids-Pie and Ice cream (vanilla sherbet)
Show in evening-
Tour of town in dark-cafe bar with accordion and drummer-Little Girls acrobatics-Pass Hat-Other Cafe violin. 
Missed doughnuts & coffee so Ruth (R. C. girl) Played and sang to us till midnight-
Scott in and sick.

September 22nd Letter to Mom and family-Pass to town

Dearest mom & all, Got your letter of Sept. 3 a few days ago but have been so darn busy that I haven't had time to touch correspondence. I'd much rather write individual letters to all of you and if this break lasts long enough I will but for now just make believe I'm talking to each and every one of you cause I love you all. Things were rather hectic for me for quite awhile after we came over here and we still have some work of the drudgery sort to do for a while but we are now in a "Rest" area safe and sound from any enemy action and have prospects of some relaxation (can't count on it too long though.)
