Tried to survey on Rd to Trovieres and Clarvoix (Clerf)-

Tanks ahead (swastika) stopped survey

Back to Btry- Packed to leave 1400- Parked in fields waiting for C. S. M. O.
Pappy Roth got stuck- Scott & Hood went through Govey in W. C.

After water on way back a Jerry tank fired at them- Three negroes piled aboard but one running up Rd. was left as Scott tore out---

C. S. M. O. at 5:30 after all, but one route out was cut off-cut left towards Houfalise but turned around on report of Jerry tanks ahead. Back and took Rd through La Roche going about 5 miles an hour because of traffic- Parked on side rd. Slept on W. C. hood for a couple of hours.

September 22nd Letter to Mom and family-Pass to town

Dearest mom & all, Got your letter of Sept. 3 a few days ago but have been so darn busy that I haven't had time to touch correspondence. I'd much rather write individual letters to all of you and if this break lasts long enough I will but for now just make believe I'm talking to each and every one of you cause I love you all.
