Feb 1 Surv(ey) into Schliersach
Cliff Hope- Still at Trois Vierges on 1 February, our battalion continued the execution of its primary mission in general support of the VIII Corps, moving on in a few days to southeast of St. Vith, next to the German border and the Siegfried Line, which the Germans called the West Wall.
The immediate objective of the corps, the after action report stated on the opening day of the month, was the Schnee Eifel Ridge along the Belgian-German border, one of the first places seized by the Germans during their "Breakthrough" launched in mid-December. Resistance was fairly light so far and good progress was reported all along the corps' front. At the German-Belgian-Luxembourg Border, several bridgeheads were established across the Our River.
