Germany May 4th
Dearest Mom,
Mail just hasn't been coming in for some time now so I don't know any of the latest news from home. Well anyhow, I hope the news from this end has you relieved and happy. Yep, this part of the war should be over by the time this letter gets to you.
We have the convenience of electricity and a radio a big part of the time now and believe you me we've been hugging that set pretty close, "sweating out' each program with "We interrupt this program to announce....' The roof on this house raises about three inches from our increased tension.
No matter how fast the final surrender comes now mom you don't have to worry about my safety. I won't see any more action here. In fact I'm living a better garrison life here than I did in England-minus the week-end passes and visits to friendly homes. Our rooms are nice, most of us have beds and there is a shower point and clean clothing exchange (run by Q.M.) not far away. We even see a few movies now.
The life may be soft, mom, but it doesn't lessen that hungry yearning I have to see Leona, Lynne, you and all the rest of the family I love so much. May it be soon!
Your Loving Son, Luther
