Winsor War Notes-Luther Snow Winsor's WW II experiences

7th   Moved to village near Siegen. Front at Siegen. Put in mike base. Cleared brush, dug holes.

6th Surveyed till dark. Picked up Mauser rifle.

April 5- Convoy to Eisern (3 Mi SE of Siegen). 155 mm Howitzer set up 50 yards behind, firing NW over us. Knocked out windows, etc. Marilu: These big portable guns must have packed quite a punch! At 50 yds distance the noise and concussion would have been considerable .

April 2nd I took it easy. Wrote letters, made holsters for CP pistol   Marilu: From Lu's memorabilia, a card included in stationary sets sold to military personnel. It had been cut apart so the picture is separate. 

April 1st Easter Sunday, East of the Rhine Dearest Mom,  Boy o boy, this letter I got from you the other night really made time if you get what I mean. December 7th to March 29th is quite a space on the calendar.  The Christmas card that came in the letter was really sweet. The notes from each of the family that were home at the time I want to keep so I'm going to send the card home to Leona to put in her scrap book.  I'm glad grandma Winsor had such a nice visit with you. Hope that the whole family can get together before too long. How is grandma Snow now? Tell them both I'd give a lot to throw my arms around them again. Of course that goes for all of the family too! I miss you all so much.  Easter has been quite restful (for a change) Got a shower this morning. There were church services this afternoon and we even got an Easter egg for dinner. March 31 Whole party out on control (Show at night. Sat by general) https://ww2db.com/battle_spec.php?battle_id=134 As the troops of the French First Army crossed the Rhine River near Speyer, Germany, they became the first French troops to attack across the river since Napoleon Bonaparte. Meanwhile, US Third Army reached Siegen, Germany.
