Monday June 12th 1944 'Dearest mom and All'

June 12th 1944

Dearest Mom and All,

Gee Mom, I don't know what I'd do without letters from you, Leona and the folks at home. Anyplace outside of Utah can be so darn lonely without that spark from home to show that those you love are thinking of you.

Polly honey, I know what you must be going through thinking of Jim with this invasion going on, but don't you fear-he's OK, and so are the boys entrusted to his care. I'm glad to say that we've got some swell officers to go over under now. Lt Tyler from Tyler Texas is a lot like Jim. He's a young Red Headed kid who thinks of the boys before himself and a guy you can trust with your life. Tell me as much as you can about where Jim is, etc. - Who knows I may get a chance to contact home somewhere soon.

Ken really sounds as if he's going places. Passing Civil Service exams already! Just keep that up bud and you'll find your place in the world. As dad will tell you, Ken, a male steno who knows his stuff and can learn the ropes in any job is one of the great varieties and will always have a good job. That's one of the best ways to use your languages too. A good steno who has knowledge of one or two languages can write his own ticket with any International firm or with the U. S. Foreign Service . Keep shooting boy, I'm proud of you!

I'm certainly glad Cpt. Mip is set up so well. She deserves a good break. I'll write her as soon as possible.

Grandma dearest, I know it's hard for you to do any letter writing and I don't expect it. When I can just feel your love and prayers coming out to me all the time there isn't need for word of mouth or pen. I love you all so much and I am so thankful for the upbringing and loving care I received, and for the church and the wonderful beliefs it has taught me. I've been in the army nearly two years now and I know that very few children have been as privileged as we were.

I'm on C.Q. tonight and have to go put the Battery to bed now, so I'll mail this as I go past the day room.

My love and prayers to all of you-and- mom, I'm so thankful for you. Don't worry about me will you?

All the love in the world

Lu

Nov 26th 1945 To Leona from Wes Hill

Nov 26, 1945 Luzon Dear Leona: Well here I am still but not for long. No kidding a dream. A long worn out Dream is coming nearer to reality. I will be home some time in January. Unless orders change. But up to now we sail or get on a boat on the 10th of December. I'm about going Nuts for that is only 15 Days away. All the 70 bomber have gone to Manila last week & we are the first to go as a Unit. with 60 to 69 pointers exclusive. So you know what that means from now on there is no use in writing for the Post Office readdresses to my home address. so here I am. and not a darn thing to write about. Our old Outfit Broke up and so I'm in the 736th AAA Gun Bn. which is second on the list. for shipment. 43,000 men are going to shipped from the AAA this December on 147 Troop Transports. So I'll see you after I walk out of the Gates of Fort Douglas or should I call you up for Instruction on how to get around Salt Lake. Well that's too far ahead to think clear...

November 13th-14th Arrival in New York

Not sure when most of these photos were taken, but the last looks like arrival. The others are just so the photos are spread out over the On the Ship posts.
