Oct 16th Letter home

Belgium Oct 16th

 Dearest Mom, Polly and all,
Got your letter with dad's included just now and really enjoyed it. Polly you sound like you're right back in the running again after such a terrific ordeal and it relieves me a great deal cause I was really anxious after mom's last letter. Parts of my mail has come through mighty swell in the last few days and the rest is just missing. Leona's letter last night was dated Oct-8 and dad's of Sept. 16th went clear to the U.S. and back, in this I got from you tonight Polly, in a month to the day--Don't know why he sent it home cause they've been coming from him direct quite regularly.

Dad really sounds as though he's been rewarded at last for all his efforts. That horseback trip with the King of Persia sounded like something out of the Arabian knights-boy would Muriel and I have given the world to be along! My last letter from dad was received out on the Brittany Peninsula near Crozon and he was then planning to be home by Christmas-Hope it works out that way.

Leonas last letter was full of her impressions of Bea and Ray-they really made a hit with her, but at the same time seeing how happy they are together-and with little Mike, makes her awfully blue and lonesome for me. Gee but I'd love to be there even for just a minute to see our growing families-just once. It does make me very happy and

somewhat contented, and I'll bet Jim feels the same way, to know what wonderful folks we're coming home to someday-I hope soon. It's hard to comprehend just what changes are taking place there at home but I do know that our little additions to posterity are sompin' wonderful.

Last night we had a Sunday diner fit for a king-and not at the mess area either! We are now housed comfortably in buildings and our section has a new kitchen coal range. In our day's activities yesterday we managed to purchase for 50 franks each-six young hens. Okie and Tim demonstrated their ability at frying chicken-and I mean they were good! Rolled in salt and flour and done to a juicy but crisp brown, delicious tenderness-- oh baby! That with crisp french fries and creamed corn just satisfied completely.

"Rocky" is the cutest nick-name Polly-how did you happen on that? Little gals don't go so good for those things or you can bet your boots Lynne would have one by now. I'm glad Rocky is like his dad-couldn't pick a finer pattern.

My love to all my loved ones there at home-and don't worry about me. We're still doing our job but so far with very little danger to ourselves. The weather is lousy but we have rubber galoshes and a warm stove to come back to so we stay pretty healthy-
All my love & kisses
Ly

Nov 26th 1945 To Leona from Wes Hill

Nov 26, 1945 Luzon Dear Leona: Well here I am still but not for long. No kidding a dream. A long worn out Dream is coming nearer to reality. I will be home some time in January. Unless orders change. But up to now we sail or get on a boat on the 10th of December. I'm about going Nuts for that is only 15 Days away. All the 70 bomber have gone to Manila last week & we are the first to go as a Unit. with 60 to 69 pointers exclusive. So you know what that means from now on there is no use in writing for the Post Office readdresses to my home address. so here I am. and not a darn thing to write about. Our old Outfit Broke up and so I'm in the 736th AAA Gun Bn. which is second on the list. for shipment. 43,000 men are going to shipped from the AAA this December on 147 Troop Transports. So I'll see you after I walk out of the Gates of Fort Douglas or should I call you up for Instruction on how to get around Salt Lake. Well that's too far ahead to think clear...

November 13th-14th Arrival in New York

Not sure when most of these photos were taken, but the last looks like arrival. The others are just so the photos are spread out over the On the Ship posts.
